Nursing homes were hard hit by the coronavirus outbreak, accounting for about 30% of the deaths across the country and more like three-quarters of the deaths in the Lehigh Valley. Before the virus hit this winter, chronic problems such as staff shortages and lax infection control measures put nursing homes in a dangerous situation -- "a disaster waiting to happen."
